Now that we have the next few pages planned out, all we have to do is draw them and release them! The main characters for the series have also been completed and the only characters we’ll need to design are characters that won’t be appearing often. This page in particular, almost didn’t make the cut because we all had different ideas on how the situation would unfold. Fortunately for our co-writer, they were able to find a way to retain the original gag while putting a more plausible spin to it.

So we mentioned in our blog that we were going seasonal. What does that mean? Well, if you’ve been watching TV shows you know that they don’t release episodes as they make them. Some production companies set aside the seasonal “downtime” to actually record some of the TV shows in order to provide enough time for post-production and editing to work on them.

The same is going to happen with Xanny’s Curse. We’re going to be introducing a downtime in July and August, where we’ll work on the next panels, and we’re going to be working on something else while the next panels are being released. What this will allow us to do is to preplan an entire set of pages and be able to focus on other aspects of Xanny’s Curse, including the planned animated comic, making new wallpapers and things to share with friends, etc.

With that said, it should be smooth sailing here on out. I will have to talk to the team regarding the timeline of the next page, but I want them to rest for a little bit and congratulate them for a job well done. Why don’t you guys comment on here and let them know what you think of the past few pages and where the story’s headed? I’ll be sure to pass it along for you!

So after a long wait, Xanny’s Curse is finally back! We’ve been working hard at trying to get this thing going for years and years - and I seriously thought that because we’ve gotten so busy with other stuff that we couldn’t undertake a project like Xanny’s Curse. That is, until I met the right people.

Xanny’s Curse, in its simplest form, is the story of a man whose unknown past becomes the reason why he’s living the life he lives now. From the very beginning, great effort and care has been made to make sure that the origin storyline doesn’t affect or reflect any sort of single religion - and we’ve also tried to make the comic as accessible to a wide array of people as possible with the introduction of our transcript feature.

With that said, there will be plenty of changes to this website. The Xanny’s Curse blog (http://blog.xannyscurse.com) is one of the major sweeping changes to the website as we resuscitate Xanny’s Curse back to life even more. With script revisions and weekly meetings about Xanny’s Curse, I think we’re going to be able to continue Xanny’s story in the most realistic and plausible manner yet.

Just as a public service, Xanny’s Curse will be updating every two weeks starting today… so you can expect a new page every two weeks. If you can’t wait until the next page, then hop on over to the blog and see what we’re planning for you. Who knows… maybe we’ll let you in on a little secret here and there about what’s going to happen in the next few pages. Until then, please enjoy this brand new Xanny’s Curse page!

Yea, I love LAMP… Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP that is! I’ve been working on getting a lot of the features up on the site lately and I’ve also been networking and trying to give my fans a forum home. Thanks to Robin and Thom of The Wotch community, we finally have forums for Xanny’s Curse. At first I was apprehensive in taking their offer to join their community, seeing as how I wasn’t necessarily sure how often I’d update, then the creativity just surged out of me again… like it was dormant for a long time. I knew that after I came home from work today that I would do my darndest to create the new XC page you see today.

After a nice meal with the parents, I then sat myself down at my desk, picked up my tablet, and started… doodling. I was briefly talking to Thom from The Wotch when I was overcome with creative energy. After that, I suppose, was history - another XC page was posted within a day of the other’s publication.

But what’s strikingly different between the two is the art style. Today’s drawing had a lot more shading, some depth, and fairly composed scenes. I admit that some of the scenes are oddly framed, but all the drawings were done within 30 minutes! Shading, lettering, and posting online included… What’s really taking a lot more time is me writing this post - but that’s something that I chose to do :).

Compared to the drab, almost experimental comic yesterday, I am very pleased with today’s look - but people who’ve seen Vince’s work might have nightmares of looking at the third panel here hinting at quite possibly a serious look for Xanny’s Curse. While the comic does look more refined, the story will stay the same. I’m not sure if I can keep up the same quality over the next panels, but I’ll do my best.

So - Happy Memorial Day (?) and enjoy the panel!

I’ve been playing a lot of Monkey Island lately, and the thought had occurred to me how silly the vegetarian cannibals were in the first game. Not only were they fooled into thinking that there was a three-headed monkey monkeying around the area, but the fact that they’re on a fad diet. This resurgence of Monkey Island madness led me into talking about how the series was going to a slant towards a serious storyline with Vince’s (the former temp-artist) art style. As imagined, not a lot of people liked it, and a redo was needed.

Little did I know that it would take me this long to muster enough courage to lift the pen of my new (if you call three years old new) tablet and continue the storyline. I figured “three” is the magic number here (as in I updated the comic three years ago), so I had the notion to put in the little Monkey Island joke in there. By the way, all the instances of the word “Monkey Island” are copyrighted by Lucasarts Entertainment (can’t figure out how to do a superscript with my current CMS).

The biggest thing that prevented me from updating Xanny’s Curse was my use of the pen tablet. I wasn’t too sure if I would be able to capture the essence of each character in a quick manner. Nonetheless, I tried really hard to get as much style into these three drawings in a manner of minutes. The whole goal, in my case for that matter, is to create these pages as fast as I can so we can get the story rolling. Not being around for three years makes me think a lot about things I’ve left dormant, and Xanny’s Curse was one of those things that I would eventually “get around” in doing.

Do you mind if the art’s like this? Let me know.

By the time you’re reading this, you are probably realizing that this post has been posted several days prior to you viewing this. This is deliberate… I’ve been laboring over the transfer of Xanny’s Curse onto a better, more stable server where I can freely see the site grow past the limitations of the “free” environment Keenspace/Comic Genesis perpetuated. Thankfully, it’s because of the passionate fans that this site was even created. To the people who persevered and waited for XC to arrive again, I promise you that the wait is almost over.

Back in January I mentioned in my blog that I wanted a site that will <strike>enshrine</strike> house the Xanny’s Curse series. While it took months of laboring and design to finally create the layout you see today, careful attention has been placed in order not to alienate the individuals who have been life-long subscribers to the Xanny’s Curse comic. One of the biggest pushes why this update was made actually occurred this past weekend (May 20th, if you’re keeping tabs), due to the sheer fact that I was unable to access the Xanny’s Curse comic close to a 12 hour period. It was at this time that I was determined to push the site live this week - and the reason why you’re also seeing it now.

While I’m getting some of the features up, please bear in mind that this is a work in progress and a majority of the pages on the site are still offline and need to be uploaded. I’m currently putting entries on every single page I’ve posted so I can give some much needed color commentary on some of the pages that were posted in the past. I’m hoping that these comments give you a much better understanding of how the comic came about and give you a clue as to where Xanny’s Curse is headed in the future.

I’m trying to get the pages as fast as I can… I’ll update the comments and contents as the days go by.
